Sri Sundarakanda Ramayana

Sita Ma and Hanuman / COPYRIGHT 2012 Philip Salas
ALL RIGHTS RESERVED BY THE ARTIST

A new book cover design I recently finshed, for poet Sathya Narayana
from India. His new poetry book will be an english translation of
Sage Valmiki's "Sri Sundaraknada"--5th canto of Ramayana, which
depicts Hanuman's search for Mother Sita.

The scene I illustrated for his cover, is the poet's favorite passage
within his book, and makes reference to how Hanuman finally finds
Sita Ma sorrounded by "she demons" in Asoka Park, after a
nightlong search of every building, palace and woods of Ravana's
region.

The book will be titled "Finding the Mother" by Poet Sathyanarayan
please keep a look out for it, for it is great reading for the soul.

Convention Center / booth design series

Description: ATOMO TOTUM

I was recently commissioned to design a series of booth designs for an international technology convention. There was a general guideline delineated by the client, as to what they wanted to display in each booth, but had no idea of what they needed to display it in. to top it off, I only had three days to present the final concepts and make it a win win situation for all. Think fast Phil, you can doo eet!...

I thought it might be fun to breakup conventional cubical shapes floating in space, since the general them was the ATOM... (as a cranked through 3 days of no sleep, 6 packs of siggs ... 50 gallons of java... aaand burning about half my brain cells in the whole process, I managed to meet the dead-line.... don't know how i made it this time.
This was the first concept that came out... exterior center piece "ATOMO TOTUM"(a modern version of a Totum pole), that would tie all the rest of the designs together.

(hope its well received).

note: The following images depict the various booth designs I designed, with brief descriptions of their functionality, and what was to be displayed with in them.

a prayer towards understanding

¨LOSS¨/COPYRIGHT 2011 PHILIP SALAS/ALL RIGHTS RESERVED BY THE ARTIST

Sometimes the sense of loss hits hard, and art becomes the only way one can find understanding within ... in order to keep growing thrue rebuilding. Loss, is such a difficult feeling to understand and express, since we are all so diffrent, ones own sensibilty can be so diffent from anothers perception . This piece was a good excersise for me twords realization within the complexity of the sense of ¨loss¨ a healthy way twords grasping the illusion of the sense of loss... and another self portrait, as a prayer towards understanding...
